Vane Type Demister

(for liquid/gas and three-phase separators)

Vane type demisters remove large droplets from the gas flow. They are designed as a tray with special zig-zag or wavy vanes installed at equal distance from eachother. When gas passes the vanes curves, inertial forces drive droplets to the vanes surface thus forming the film. Liquid separation and runoff happens mostly on curves or in specially designed pockets.

Selection criteria

an average range of flow volume change (max/min > 4);
separation effciency > 96 %;
acceptable for slightly contaminated conditions (without double vane pockets);
high capacity for liquid (works even with liquid lock on entrance in horizontal devices);
low pressure drop;
drop diameter 10…30 μm.

Recommended applications:

separation of liquid with moderate liquid amount in a flow;
good for moderately contaminated conditions (only flat vanes or vanes with one pocket);
can be used where wire mesh demisters don’t fit: high parafine oils, sulfur recovery, etc.;
can be used both in vertical and horizontal devices.

Not recommended applications:

highly contaminated working environment (parafines, tars, sand, hydrates);
dence fluids;
pressures above 70 bar (demisting efficiency drops drammatically when gas dencity increases).

Vane type demisters are designed as a tray with special zig-zag profile with one or two turns (pockets). They remove droplets and are more effective than regular plate type coalescers. Pockets formed by vanes zig-zags are very effective in catching droplets and they resist secondary droplet forming very well.
