The natural gas drying unit with coalescing filters is a highly efficient system for removing micron-sized droplet liquid and liquid plugs from the flow of natural gas or other gases.

Additional problems may be associated with oil carryover from compressors. It is necessary to protect process equipment using a gas drying unit in several cases including:

  • fuel gas for gas turbine engines must be cleaned from micron aerosols;
  • gas supplied to the system of dry seals of gas pumping units must be dry;
  • natural gas when pumped into storage must be cleaned from compressor oil.

Description and operating principles of the coalescing filter

The device is designed to clean the incoming gas from liquid and possible solid impurities. The main elements of the device are coalescing filter elements. They are designed to separate the incoming initial aerosol, coalesce droplets and separate them. The flow of the gas being cleaned at the entrance to the coalescing filter slows down due to a sharp expansion and changes the direction of movement. Due to resulting inertia, large liquid particles and “liquid plugs” are retained in the lower chamber of the filter, where they are automatically scrubbed into the drainage system of the facility. Then the gas flow passes through the coalescing filters, where the final gas drying occurs.
